Why is Entrepreneurship Important?

Why should I be an Entrepreneur?

What is an entrepreneur? It is a person that works for themselves, not being employed, and owns some kind of business(es). I learned this week that being an entrepreneur is something that each of us has the innate ability to become. We are born with the ability to be independent, the ability to think cognitively and problem solve; we have the ability to be creative and find solutions to difficult situations. This is something most people have inside them, except for a few who may have some mental and/or physical limitations. We often are raised to not be independent, however, and often are told to stick to the 'status quo,' and do what other people do in life. Often we are told to not take risks, and we get fear instilled inside us. We lack courage at times to do what we feel is calling from us inside ourselves.

I learned this week, however, that to be an entrepreneur we need to change our mindset, if it hasn't been changed already, to one that is courageous, independent, and willing to take risks and be creative. In the articles that I read, they talked about how entrepreneurs need to dig deep within themselves to find what they are, and can be, best at. We need to key in on our best traits, natural abilities, and things that we are passionate about. In one of the articles, it stated that your entrepreneur calling is when "you use your greatest gifts and strengths, in a way that brings you great passion and joy, while serving a deep, burning need in the world (What is the entrepreneurship course?)." We need to identify what makes us the most passionate, what can drive us through hard times and good times, and what need we are fulfilling by doing that calling.

To put your plans and dreams into action, you need to invest in yourself, and make goals. You need to have a skillset you are working on developing, to become the person that you want to be in the future. We are always able to grow and need to keep improving ourselves. You need to have a vision of where you see yourself in 2-5-10 years at least, and write down steps you are going to take to get there. You need to network with people who are like-minded and have similar visions. This will help you feel motivated and not alone. You need to get experience, be more confident in your own abilities right now, not be afraid to fail or be made fun-of. These attributes will give you the strength to keep pushing forward to your dreams and vision. Most of all, you need to believe in yourself, and that you can do what you dream of, and that you deserve it. No one is undeserving of being an entrepreneur, and no one should be told they are not capable of trying to accomplish their dreams and ideas.
